Sorry, but unless you're into that PBS documentary, stay away from this one. Interesting as a one-time viewing, but not for your collection of truly hot girl-girl scenes. I'd give it 2 hot peppers, that's about it....

This is an excellent video! If you're a fan of build up in erotic love scenes, then you ought to love this documentary. Some great mainstream stuff I'd never seen, let alone heard of. I think the scene from "Naked Came The Stranger" rates up there with the scenes from Desert Hearts or The Love Garden. Erotically educational!

Normally I might have agreed with MLG's review (see above) that this was too much of a documentary with not enough sexual content, but the fact is some of it is really hot! Those old 1960's and early 70's flicks had some great moments, and this video gives you only the best clips from these otherwise largely forgettable films. In those days they didn't do the super close-ups like we see today, but I for one like that. Also they're more sensually and artistically filmed, and the stories actually include plots and dialogue, which I also like. Perhaps my favorite aspect of g-g scenes in this era was the older, predatory woman pursuing the innocent, younger girl. I especially liked a scene from the movie "Score" in which the older woman takes her younger partner from behind! Very erotic! Why can't they do that today?

For those who want a video with a more scholarly interpretation of lesbian erotic movies from the 60s and 70s, this video is a must have for your collection. Pauline Edwards takes us on the journey of the lesbian experience in movies, paying homage to the classics of the genre, such as "The Twilight Girls", "The Alley Cats", "Naked Came the Stranger" and the all-time classic, "Therese and Isabelle". Paying attention to the evolution of lesbian erotica, from the role of the lesbian sex scene in heterosexual encounters, to the campy and bizarre lesbian S&M camp, to the more sophisticated and mature examinations of the lesbian sex scene, this video is a excellent source of knowledge. Of course, the scenes depicted are, by far, the most erotic that I've ever seen. I would go so far as to say that the scenes presented in this video are more erotic than anything you're going to find on video shelves today. As for the eye candy, these scenes all have the most beautiful women I have ever seen. Watching this video, I couldn't help but be entranced by the scenes from "Her and She and Him". Sure, the settings and action in each of the scenes used every campy device out there, from wind-blown curtains to the older lesbian teaching the younger girl how it's done. But that aside, the long and final scene of "Claude and Greta" making love on a bed shrouded in sheer wind-blown fabric, their naked bodies charged with passion, and, likely, the most erotic and daring lesbian sex scene one could ever expect for a movie that was made in 1969. I have watched this scene over and over again and it's still powerful. Amazing! And all the other scenes are funny, campy, ridiculous, and extremely hot. This is an excellent video.

Of course it should be noted that the film's excerpted here where either directed by, produced by, edited by, or imported by Radley Metzger, one of the most important and under-rated figures in American film from about 1964-1977. His soft-core erotic films of the 60's, paved the way for the hard-core revolution of the 70's. Under the name Henry Paris he made some of the landmark early hardcore films including “The Private Afternoons of Pamela Mann” and the “Opening of Misty Beethoven”, often considered the best hard-core film ever made. So this is an important collection for film buffs, as well as for lovers of girl-girl scenes. The 60's stuff is pretty tame by contemporary standards, but there are some payoffs near the end - like the lovely scene from Naked Came the Stranger with the great Darby Lloyd Rains.

Abysmal. I really regret buying. There are loads of good lesbian scenes from the 1960s and 70s, none of them here as this DVD is a collection of the worst of them. Out of 90 minutes, maybe 10 minutes is worth watching. I cannot see how it merits 5 stars.

Well if you like the history of lesbianism on film this is for you. But you are not really going to experience any erotic situation while the host speaks during the scenes. This one is good for your history but not for you erotic entertainment. Grade: C.

I was really surprised by how much I liked this video. There is some vintage footage here that should interest all lesbian connoisseurs, especially the other women here, although this is much more than a history lesson. The clips taken from these movies are just the lovemaking scenes, and some of them were very satisfying. I found the narration both insightful and interesting, by putting the videos in context of the time they were created. It’s easy to sit back today and scoff at the production quality, or the level of sexuality shown. However, if you look at the time in which they were created, and the level of tolerance shown towards lesbians, it should shock you how much they show. And some of these clips are actually quite explicit. Really, the sensuous quality to many of these movies exceeds what they are doing today, or at least equals it. There is story, build-up, and cinematic style which all (usually) conclude in a beautiful love scene. Some of my favorite scenes: "The lickerish quartet", "Therese and Isabelle", "I am frigid, why?" There is some beautiful kissing in these scenes, and in "I am frigid, why?" there is a scorching three-way with two girls doing trib while the third takes turns deep kissing them. Wow! How can you not like that?! Recommended? Absolutely. No question. Unless you're just stuck on hardcore and have no taste for the subtle, you should get this video. Grade: A+

I agree with Anonymous. A real waste of money. I fail to comprehend how this film got a five star rating. Most of the film is grainy black and white footage with little interesting content. The only remotely interesting bit was "Her and She and Him" - the rest a real yawn. There is a lot of decent stuff from the 60s and 70s and none of it is here.

Well, this sure was a let down. With the exception of a few remote memorable scenes, there is not much substance to this. It's not what I would call a "couples" movie, and often I had to resort to other means to -er- "remain interested," yeah, that's it. Good for historians, perhaps.
