Description
[CC] If you've forgotten what it's like to be fifteen, it all comes crashing back in this wonderfully edgy look at the relationship between a sensitive, vulnerable young girl named Claude (Alison Folland, To Die For) and her beautiful, quick-witted best friend, Ellen (Tara Subkoff, Freeway). Filmed on the streets of New York City, All Over Me is like an unsweetened version of MTV's My So-Called Life.
Backed by a hip, alternative soundtrack, the film is a raw and realistic account of an adolescent girl's struggle to find friendship and love in a world where kids don't count. Crossing the line between sexuality and friendship, between innocent discovery and lifelong regret, she discovers what coming-of-age is really all about.

A few very cute, but quick, kissing scenes, nothing more.

Illusion
A telling look at lesbianism and adolescence, which we don't see much of in film. The point does get somewhat diffused by other themes such as drugs, violence, and other wholesome family values.

Critic: Very raw, very edgy. Sometimes this is a good thing, sometimes not so much. It's a bold, and at times harsh look at adolescence, identity, relationships, and self-destruction. Some of the characters you'll like, others you'll hate in this unflinching reality check.
Rating: B+

Lover: The main character, Claud (which, indicatively, she prefers over "Claudia") goes through a discovery of herself, of her conceptions of love, and the hidden truths of those around her. At first I found her frustratingly dense, but as she grew into her character and began to recognize love where she found it, I became increasingly drawn to her and the movie in general. Never perfect, she is undeniably human, which makes her story that much more appealing, because on some level we can all identify.
Rating: B+

Voyeur: This movie got its rating based on language, not nudity, 'cuz there's none here (remember these are teenagers, and there are laws). On the other hand, there's some excellent kissing, surprisingly much so, so it's still worth seeing.

Here's a nice change. I had to actually think about this review before I wrote it. This is a beautiful little story about the thin line between friendship and sexuality between teenage girls. Been there done that, so I could definitely relate to this movie. The girls in question are Claudia (Claude), and her best friend Ellen. Claude is slightly overweight, shy, a little tomboyish, but loves her best friend in more ways than one. Ellen is beautiful, outgoing, confident, somewhat volatile, hooked on drugs, and has very poor taste in men.

Their friendship, and much of the substance of the movie, centers around the riot girrl scene of New York. They both play music, and identify strongly with the messages present in this type of music-mainly rebellion, freedom, I'm-a-girl-and-I'll-do-what-I-want kind of thing. Typical teenage rebellion you say? Not really. These girls really bond together on this stuff. It helps blur the line between what friends feel for each other and what lovers feel.

After some ancillary events (they find one of their gay friends dead-probably killed by Ellen's overtly machismo boyfriend, Ellen has sex with bf in park) Claude wakes up one night to find Ellen in bed with her, straddling her body. Ellen tries to tell her how great it was with her bf, blah, blah, blah, to no avail, when Claude suddenly says to her, "you could show me". At this point, they make out very tenderly for a brief segment, and then lie next to each other in silence pondering what has just happened.

This changes everything for Claude, but Ellen just goes on with her normal life. This strains their friendship and Claude goes to a lesbian bar and meets Lucy who's openly lesbian and seems to understand Claude better than Ellen. I don't want to give the whole movie away, so I'll just say that it is a stark look at teenage sexuality, and the confusion that we all felt to one degree or another. Sometimes friendships are more than platonic to one person, than they are to the other.

From an erotic standpoint, this movie succeeds on a very subtle level. While their kisses are very nice, and frequent, there is no other physical relationship, and none is needed. There are plenty of high-quality adult videos here for that, so don't buy it looking for some hot, young, lesbian sex-cuz it ain't here. This is a romance.

I loved this movie and recommend it to anyone who can appreciate, or relate to its message. Being a teenager can be tough. 4 1/2 stars
