Illusion
It's like a cross between a travel brochure and a Penthouse magazine, only without the plot.

Critic: The one nice thing about the early Emmanuelle movies was that they featured a lot of flavoring of different cultures and customs (in locations such as Thailand, Bali, Bangkok, and Hong Kong for example). And to the director's credit, the cinematography and presentation are very elegant. However, in the end I still can't get past the question, "What was the point?"

Lover: This movie is about the very open relationship that Emmanuelle has with her husband, Jean. He allows her to sleep with whomever she chooses, so from time to time she enjoys a meaningless tryst with a woman or two. Forgive me if I'm not terribly impressed. In addition, a description and enactment of a lesbian gang-rape early in the movie didn't serve to endear the film to me very much.

Voyeur: This movie, like its predecessor, earned an X-rating in its time. Nowadays, the difference between this and an R-rated version would be nearly indistinguishable. There's a lot of sex and nudity, but the scenes with girl-girl contact don't really cut it: one is an unsexy nonconsentual scene, one is too brief (but delightful while it lasts), and the other two are burdened with male presence. None of the buildup is as good as in the first movie.

This is one of the best erotic films I've seen. The women are stunning. There's even an appearance by Laura Gemser (of future Emanuelle movies, single 'm') in an incredible massage parlour scene. Most of the modern erotica I've seen would have cut away after just starting that scene, but this one goes on for a nice little while. There are a few girl-girl and straight encounters, and a nice menage-a-trois. The cinematography is extremely well done, this film is a work of art.

Womanlover
This film is an erotic, exotic gem. Sylvia Kristel exudes sensuality and the scene where she is having acupuncture-induced erotic dreams in an acupuncture parlor in Hong Kong is the stuff sensual fantasies are made of. The steamroom / massage parlor seduction scene is also overflowing with sensuality and eroticism. The musical score adds to the wonderful hazy, dreamy erotic fantasyworld that the movie is all about. This is, to me, the best softcore erotica production in existence.
